What does it mean to Beleza?
The story so far
The last few years of working with Beleza Brighton have been incredibly special, we have supported local community charities and organisations, we have performed at Brighton Fringe, Joy festival, Take Part events and we have paraded at Brighton Pride and at Notting Hill Carnival with London School of Samba!
Everything we have achieved has been as a result of the dedication and goodwill of the directors, members and volunteers donating their time and effort to produce beautiful costumes and shows.
However, behind the scenes we have been patiently applying for funding to support our work and to become a samba school. A few years ago we were successful in bidding for funds from the NHS partnership to support our first project to offer dance classes to ladies with young children to improve wellbeing and reduce isolation and stress, which was a great success.
Now 2018 has started with the exciting news that our application to the Arts Council was successful!!!
This funding will support the creation and development of Beleza School of Samba and will provide free dance and bateria courses as part of this community project.
What it means to you
After the most wonderful Open Day we are really happy to announce that our first course is now full and all of our applicants were awarded a funded place.
Exciting times ahead
We still have places available on the next two courses that are planned for later in the year and everyone is welcome to apply!
If you want to just come along and learn to play in the bateria or learn to dance samba we meet every Sunday for both dance and bateria classes between 4pm and 7pm in Portslade.
It is going to be a very exciting year and we are looking forward to sharing the joy of samba with friends old and new!
Lots of love
