The queen of the drums - we are going to crown our very first Rainha de Bateria!
This is a position of honour occupied by distinguished members of the Samba School community. The queen of the drums dances ahead of the bateria and inspires them with confidence and grace. The figure of the queen of the drums section appeared in the 1970s in Rio Carnival when the famous Adele Fatima led the Youth Independent Drums Section, an unprecedent fact, and gained popularity in the following decade.
Today it is one of the most celebrated roles in samba schools.
Competition
We are excited to announce the competition will be held on 8th July 2018 at the Walrus in Brighton from 5-10pm.
Please email us if you would like to take part in the competition and if not - please come along and help us crown our first queen. To take part in the competition you must be a member and you must commit to perfoming in our shows.
With our beautiful new flag, our Mestre Sala and Porta Bandeira in place - we are looking forward to crowning our amazing and inspiring Rainha!
